A Day in the Life of an AMS student…

For some of the more unusual aspects of our school year, we are on long trips, backpacking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and participating in big games or community work days. But for much of the school year, Arthur Morgan School follows a pretty regular schedule! Our schedule changes a bit year-to-year but in general you can expect to see these classes and days.

Day students usually go home around 4:00pm on weekdays, but can ask a teacher to sponsor them after school or on weekends to work in an art studio or stay for sports. We usually offer soccer or ultimate frisbee after school during certain seasons.

Boarders usually stay after school for free time. On Wednesday they stay down at school for dinner and cleanup and homework time with a non-houseparent teacher. They walk up the cove to their boarding house for a family-style dinner, chores, homework hour, and some house time. In the morning, they eat breakfast together in the boarding house, clean up, and walk or bike down to school together for morning sing. On Mondays and Fridays some boarders will stay with a down-at-school teacher for the evening and some will spend the night at a day student family’s home.
