Farm and Garden

The philosophy of simple living, a large part of our curriculum, includes working with nature and cultivating an appreciation for the natural world. Our sustainable agriculture program connects students to the natural world in a direct way. In the fall students are involved in harvesting and storing vegetables. In the spring, they help with planting the garden crop which the next year's students will harvest in the fall.

Our garden program has expanded to include raising enough vegetables to sell to local restaurants and residents, increasing the income from the garden program. Our insulated greenhouses enable us to serve fresh green salads for the freshest farm-to-table school lunches and boarding houses throughout the winter.

Throughout the year, the garden program includes raising and caring for chickens, goats, sheep, turkeys and a milking cow. Students have the opportunity to work in the garden through internships, work projects, and speciall all-school projects. At our annual Thanksgiving celebration, often serving nearly 200 people, students volunteer to harvest produce as well as slaughter and prepare turkeys for the event.
