Employment
Houseparents
We typically hire two or more staff each year, usually as houseparents. As a staff-run school, without a director or headmaster, all of the work of running the school, including administrative and financial management, falls to the staff. We use a consensus decision-making process, and the ability and willingness to work within this framework is essential for all staff. We all receive the same modest salary, regardless of experience or amount of time employed at the school. Room, partial board, excellent health coverage, and other benefits are provided.
It takes a lot of energy to work here. We have intense work schedules, usually working sixty or more hours per week; and since we are a community school, it can be difficult to separate work from personal time.
If you are interested in being a staff member here and participating in this vibrant community, please contact us.Call us at (828) 675-4262 or email hiring@arthurmorganschool.org to request an information packet.
A resume and cover letter describing yourself, your applicable education and experience, and your interest in AMS, including the names and phone numbers of three references, can be sent to hiring@arthurmorganschool.org or:

Internships
Each year we offer internships with various concentrations. Interns may take on a wide range of responsibilities, depending on their skills and experience. Work opportunities include houseparenting with other staff members, teaching electives, leading trips, working in the garden, leading work projects, performing maintenance and kitchen tasks, planning special events, and being academic or personal advisors. Interns may live in boarding houses as an assistant houseparent or in one of our "down-at-school" houses.
We also have a summer Garden Internship position each year that extends from early June through August.
All interns are expected to work 40 to 50 hours each week, depending on the position and the individual. Room, board and a modest stipend are provided. Please send a resume and cover letter to the address above to inquire about these positions.
