Applying to AMS
Each year AMS has about
27 students - 18 boarding and 9 day students. The number of openings
varies annually based on graduating 9th graders and the number of
returning students.
Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated staff we are able to keep our
costs in the lowest 10% of boarding schools in the
nation. The 2008-2009 fee for a boarding student is $21,000, and for a
day student, $11,000. The day students’ fee includes lunch on
days spent on-campus
and 3 meals a day during hikes and the annual 3-week field trip.
AMS has a strong scholarship program. All scholarships are awarded
according
to need. Approximately 65% of students are currently on scholarship.
Families
in need of financial assistance should request a scholarship form with
their
application.
Students must be able and willing to accept the responsibility of
community living
in a rustic environment. After applying, all prospective students are
required
to visit the school for two days, preferably during the school year, in
order
to experience for themselves what life is like at AMS.
We are willing to consider students with special needs, but staff are
not trained
to accommodate students with severe emotional or learning problems.
Admission
decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, national
origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation or preference, gender identity or
expression, or economic status.
